Customers Driving the Future of GroundStar Planning

On March 10, 2026, we hosted the latest GS Planning Product Exchange bringing together GroundStar users from airports and operations around the world for another engaging community session.

Two years after launching this interactive format to bring aviation professionals together, the exchange continues to grow in relevance and reach. What began as a simple idea creating a space to connect, share insights, and learn from one another, has evolved into a valued platform for shaping the future of planning collaboratively.

A Truly Global Community

More than 80 INFORM customers registered for this session, representing airports and operations across multiple regions, underscoring the international strength of the GS Planning Staff & Equipment community.

The diversity of operational perspectives enriched the discussions and highlighted both shared challenges and innovative approaches across different markets.

Expert Guidance and Open Dialogue

The session was hosted by INFORM’s Product Manager, Dr. Wolfgang Vermöhlen, who brings more than 23 years of experience in optimization. With deep expertise in analytics and modeling, Dr. Vermöhlen guided participants through the agenda while fostering active discussion and practical exchange.

True to the spirit of the GS Planning Product Exchange, the format encouraged dialogue rather than one-way presentation. Participants openly shared challenges, best practices, and hands-on experiences from their daily planning environments.

Community-Shaped Agenda in Action

The agenda developed with direct input from the planning community focused on highly relevant and practical topics:

  • Intelligent Workload Curve Smoothing: strategies to smooth workload peaks caused by flight schedules while maintaining overall demand.
  • Integrating and Optimizing Areas A & B: how combining Areas A and B can unlock staffing synergies.
  • Controlling Shift Diversity in Optimization: managing shift start times and limiting shift types to ensure practical and stakeholder-friendly rosters.

Some time was also dedicated to additional topics and open questions. The lively exchange around these topics generated valuable insights that will continue to influence future GS Planning Staff & Equipment developments.

The Next Session Is Already Set

The next GS Planning Product Exchange has already been scheduled for September 8, 2026.
